How to fix a broken camping chair
A broken camping chair can be a source of frustration and disappointment when you’re out in the wilderness.
But don’t worry!
We’ve got you covered with these easy steps on how to fix a broken camping chair.
Things you might need to fix a broken camping chair:
Assess the damage
The first step is to determine where the chair has broken.
If it is a small crack, you can likely fix it with some superglue or Gorilla glue.
However, if the break is more severe, you might need to use wood and a hammer and screwdriver to fix it.
Fix broken camping chair legs
Often, it is the joint that connects the two legs together. If this is the case, then you will need to use a metal file to smooth out the rough edges.
Once the edge is smooth, use a hot glue gun to attach a small piece of wood (a toothpick will work) to the edge of the metal.
The final step is to use gorilla glue on the small piece of wood you attached in the previous step. Let it dry for up to 24 hours, and your camping chair should be back in shape!
Fix broken back brace on camping chair
If the back brace of the camping chair has broken or bent you’ll need to replace it. Remove the screws from the back of the chair and take out the old brace.
Next, cut a piece of wood that is about 2″x4″ in size. Drill a hole in each end of the wood and then use screws to attach it to the back of the chair.
Finally, reattach the screws to hold the brace in place. Your camping chair is now fixed!
Fix broken or loose camping chair joints
Another major reason for camping chairs to break is loose joints.
This is an easy repair and only requires a screwdriver.
To strengthen the joints again simply find the affected leg or arm of the chair, locate the screws and tighten.
If the joint is still flimsy, then you may need to take it one step further and apply some metal epoxy, which can be found at your local hardware store.
The metal-epoxy will fuse the joint together so it is sturdy again.
Fix ripped or torn camping chair fabric
If the fabric of the camping chair has ripped or worn away you will need to replace it.
This is a relatively easy process but will require some sewing skills.
The first step is to cut away the old fabric and then hem the new fabric in place.
Once the new fabric is in place, you will need to stitch it down using a sewing machine or by hand.
If you do not have any experience with a sewing machine or do not have a sewing machine, there is no need to worry.
You can simply glue the fabric in place instead!
To do this, put a hot glue gun on a low setting and attach it to the camping chair.
While keeping pressure on the glued area for 20-30 seconds you must continue applying pressure until the glue cools and dries.
It is also possible to use duct tape instead of glue if you do not have a hot glue gun.
Simply wrap the duct tape around the affected area, overlapping each layer by 50%.
This will create a water-resistant seal that will prevent the fabric from further tearing or wearing away.
Camping chairs are no match for the great outdoors.
They can be your best friend during a camping trip but they never seem to last forever.
