The two main types of hot tent are cotton canvas tents and silnylon tents. Canvas hot tents are best for car camping due to their heavy weight and size, while synthetic hot tents are best for backpacking as they tend to be lightweight and compact.

5 best hot tents for winter camping
OneTigris Smokey Hut Ultralight Hot Tent

Ultralight hot tent perfect for backpacking
OneTigris manufactures some of the most affordable ultralight hot tents. Weighing only 2.6lbs the Smokey Hut is perfect for winter backpacking and hunting, particularly if you couple it with a lightweight, foldable stove.
Despite its lightweight 20D silnylon outer, the tent has an impressive hydrostatic rating of 3000mm. We’ve previously discussed the importance of hydrostatic ratings in our guide to the best tents for motorcycle camping, but basically, a tent requires a hydrostatic rating of around 2000mm to be able to withstand heavy rain and extreme wind. With a hydrostatic rating of 3000mm, the Smokey Hut can not only withstand heavy rain and harsh wind, but any physical force of water being pushed through it, such as someone/something leaning on it.
Another neat weatherproofing feature of the Smokey Hut is its waterproof YKK zippers. Many tents fail with their waterproofing capabilities at the zippers. But the Smokey Hut zippers don’t leak, even in torrential rain. As a matter of fact, the tent doesn’t leak anywhere, at all, even at the stove jack hole.

While it’s recommended as a 2-person tent or 1-person and wood stove tent, you can actually fit 2 people and a stove in if you really need to. Even though the tent is made from super thin material it actually gets really, really hot inside when you are using your wood stove.
The tent comes supplied with everything you need to get set up including 1 aluminum pole, guy-lines and tent pegs. The only thing you need to purchase is a stove pipe jack to velcro onto the stove opening. You can purchase a proper OneTigris stove jack for about $20 on Amazon, or you can make your own.
For the price point the Smokey Hut is an amazing hot tent. But what makes it such good value is that it is a true 4 season tent. This means not only do you have a fantastic hot tent for winter months, but if you purchase the separate inner mesh tent, you can use it as a standard teepee tent for summer months. The inner mesh is, for obvious reasons, only suitable for use when used as a standard tent and not as a hot tent.
Danchel Canvas Bell Hot Tent

Perfect for large families, car camping, gatherings and parties
The Danchel canvas bell tent is a great alternative to the Stout bell tent if you’re looking for canvas on a budget.
It comes with 2 stove jacks already installed, one on the top and one on the wall. While the one on the wall likely won’t be much use to most, it may be suitable for some. The stove jacks feature a heat resistant strip up to 500 degrees, to prevent damage to the canvas and also come with rain flaps to cover the holes when not in use. This prevents any rain leakage and cold air seeping in.
With a stove installed, the tent is super cushty, warm and inviting. The glow of the wood stove gives off a really beautiful light, both inside and outside of the tent.
The tent canvas is 100% cotton and has a hydrostatic rating of 1500mm which is enough to withstand some rain, snow and wind without too much trouble. It also features a heavy duty bathtub style floor to prevent any damp from entering from the ground and ensuring heat loss from your stove is kept to a minimum.

The tent comes with a 5-year warranty, but customer support is based in China so communication can sometimes get lost in translation. While you likely won’t have any issues with the tent, it’s something to think about. Although, buying through Amazon means you always have the support from Amazon’s customer service team.
Similar to the Stout bell tent, it is super easy to put up and take down, and comes supplied with an easy to pack carry bag. Again, it’s heavy and cumbersome, but that’s the price you pay for quality and durability.
Russian Bear Hot Tent

A great hot tent option for hunters, fishermen and survivalists
The Russian Bear hot tent may at first seem rather expensive, but when you take into consideration that it comes supplied with everything, including a premium wood stove and chimney, it is actually fantastic value.
The tent is super weatherproof and created primarily for hunting and ice fishing in extreme weather conditions. The exterior of the tent is made of waterproof, high-tech oxford fabric, has taped seams and a protective skirt around the outside of the bottom of the tent. All of this ensures rain, snow and sleet cannot enter your tent.
On top of this, the 3-layer floor is attached to the tent via a zip and is heat insulated. This ensures the snow beneath the stove doesn’t melt and no water soaks into your tent from the ground, while simultaneously helping keep heat from your wood stove inside.
The Caminus M stove that comes supplied with the tent is actually extremely good and retails at around $600 alone. It’s not cheap and nasty like you often get when you buy “all-in-one” packages.

The Caminus stove is primarily made from stainless steel. The side walls however, are made from heat-resistant ceramic glass. The ceramic glass sides offer superior heat emission compared to standard stoves, while also offering a golden light glow inside your tent. The extra heat is really noticeable, especially with all of the insulated elements that make up the floor and tent, it gets and stays really, really warm.
The side panels of the stove can be detached allowing you to cook food on top of the stove and an adjustable air supply allows you to control the heat and burn time.
The tent has a removable heat-resistant fabric that can withstand up to 1200 degrees, while the steel chimney ring ensures the hot pipe doesn’t touch any of the fabric of the tent.
Other noteworthy features of the Russian Bear hot tent is its quick and easy setup time, its vast space for up to 5 people, it features a proper door and can be used in both hot and cold climates. It comes supplied with everything you need to get set up including the tent, floor, stove, stove chimney and carry bags for the tent and stove.
OneTigris Iron Wall

Similar to the Smokey Hut but comes supplied with a mesh inner tent for summer use
The OneTigris Iron Wall is one of the most lightweight tents suitable for hot tent camping. It’s similar to the Smokey Hut, but with a few added extras (and minuses).
The tent features a lightweight 20D silnylon outer with a 2000mm hydrostatic rating. This is the first difference from the Smokey Hut. The Smokey Hut has a hydrostatic rating of 3000mm which is superior, however, 2000mm is still rated to withstand heavy rain and winds, but no driving forces such as something or someone pressing the water into the fabric. However, it does feature reinforced stress points for extra wind resistance in high winds.
One of the major distinguishing features between this and the Smokey Hut is the inclusion of an inner mesh. The Iron Wall comes supplied with an inner mesh tent that can be used alongside a wood stove.
The inner mesh tent basically sits on one half of the tent, while the wood stove remains outside of the inner tent. This is a perfect option for anyone who doesn’t like creepy crawlies and bugs climbing on you in the night.
With the use of the inner tent, it is only suitable to sleep 1-person and a wood stove, though the inner mesh is completely removable if you would like to use the tent for 2 people.

The stove opening is included on the top, front side of the tent, but requires you purchase a separate stove jack which can be bought on Amazon from OneTigris here, or you can make your own.
The tent comes supplied with everything needed for setup including tent pole, tent pegs and guy-lines and weighs 3.4lbs when packed down. Considering it comes with an added inner mesh, the 0.8lb extra compared to the Smokey Hut is understandable.
Pomoly HEX teepee hot tent

A great teepee style hot tent with stove jack
The Pomoly teepee hot tent with stove jack offers plenty of premium features for a decent price.
Made from 300D oxford cloth, with a silver interior coating, it’s durable, breathable and offers superior insulation.
It can sleep up to four people without a wood stove or two people with a wood stove. You can also purchase a separate mesh inner tent for bug protection if you don’t like creepy crawlies.

One of the main advantages of this teepee style tent is its height. With a peak height of 7.92 feet, you can comfortably stand up and move around.
There are also 2 doors on either side of the tent, making it super easy to get in and out.
